Privacy
Your style decisions, your rules.
A source photo used to help Ana style you stays private and is never placed on a voting page. If you deliberately upload photos as option A and option B, those option images follow the audience you choose.
AskAna is built to be careful with your data. In plain terms:
- A private source photo is used only for styling context - to understand proportion, coverage and what will feel comfortable. It is not copied into a decision.
- A decision can contain generated outfit images, authorised retailer assets, or option photos you deliberately upload as A and B. Before an option-photo vote is created, you confirm that those are the images you intend to share.
- A decision starts private and unlisted. Depending on your choice, it may be limited to a link, selected people, or a Circle. You can revoke invitations, close voting, or delete the decision.
- Publishing to Community is a separate, recorded, revocable choice. Removing it takes it out of discovery; deleting it also removes user-uploaded option assets stored for that decision.
- You can delete any uploaded photo at any time, from your style profile or the request form.
- If a photograph of you is on AskAna and you did not agree to it, write to hello@askana.style and it will be taken down. You do not need an account, and you do not need to be the person who uploaded it. Every decision page also carries a Report this decision link.
- Photos are never used for identity verification.
- To style you, your photograph and what you tell Ana about the occasion are sent to our AI providers, Anthropic and OpenAI, who process them to produce your look and, under their API terms, do not use them to train their models. We do not train any models on your photos either.
- To keep the first styling to one per person, we store one-way account, device and network fingerprints. We never store the raw IP address in this fair-use record.
- We store only what is necessary to give you your looks and remember your taste.
- My Style learning from your votes requires your separate consent. Raw votes, purchases, returns, wear history, Circle members and Taste Match start private.
- Group Mode events are private and unlisted. The invitation link permits joining, and only event members can see A/B options, vote, or open the line-up. The line-up contains garment details only, never a member's private source photo.
- Retailer decisions may carry merchant, product, variant, invitation, click, sale, cancellation and return attribution. This is used to return you to the right product and measure net commerce, not to create a public score.
- The Ask Your Circle retailer widget stores the two product snapshots, a one-way browser key and signed attribution identifiers. Friends can vote without an account. Retailers receive only their own aggregated activity and reconciled commerce records; one retailer can never read another retailer's data.
Your style profile is yours. It exists to make each recommendation feel more like you - nothing more.
Photos and age
- Photo uploads are for adults (18+). We ask your date of birth once before your first upload and store only the yes/no result - never the date itself.
- If you are under 18, uploads stay off everywhere - but Ana still styles you fully from your taste, colours and fit preferences.
- Private AI styling photos are never shown on voting pages. Option A and B photos are different: they are shown to the audience you explicitly choose for that decision.
- Guest photos on the free /try flow live only in your browser for that session unless you create an account and save them.
- A photographed invitation on the dress-code tool is used only to read the dress code and is discarded after decoding.
Reminder emails
- Reminders exist only with your explicit consent - an unchecked box you tick yourself. We record the exact wording, time and place of consent.
- Every email has a one-click unsubscribe that works without logging in.
Who we are
AskAna is operated by Verana Ventures Ltd, of Flat 3, 71 Warwick Avenue, London W9 2PP, United Kingdom, which is the data controller for everything described on this page. Write to us about anything here at hello@askana.style, and we will answer.
Why we may hold it
- To give you what you asked for - styling, decisions, votes, your Circle. This is the contract between us, and without it there is no app.
- Because you said yes - My Style learning from your votes, reminder emails, and any non-essential cookie. Each is a separate choice, each is recorded, and each can be withdrawn without losing anything else.
- Because we have a legitimate interest - keeping accounts secure, keeping the first styling to one per person, and knowing which retailer link led to a purchase so we are paid. You can object to any of these and we will look at it properly.
- Because the law requires it - keeping records of anything you paid us for.
What we count
We record what happens in the app so we can tell whether it works: that a decision was created, that it was shared, that somebody voted, that a link was followed, which of the four ways in you chose, and whether something failed. Each record holds the name of the action, the moment it happened, which app it came from, and your account's identifier while you are signed in.
It stays with us. It is our own counting, on our own servers - not an advertising network, not a third-party analytics company, and nothing about it follows you anywhere else. We never record what you typed, the photographs themselves, or where you are.
After twelve months a record stops being yours: your identifier is removed and only the anonymous tally survives. After twenty-four months it is deleted. Delete your account and the link to you is cut immediately, so what remains counts towards nothing but a total.
This is the one thing here we do without asking first, because we cannot run the service responsibly while blind to whether it is working. If you would rather we did not, write to us and we will remove your history.
Who else touches it
We do not sell your data and we never will. These companies process it on our instructions so the app can work at all:
- Supabase - your account, the database and the photographs you upload.
- Vercel - hosting, and the traffic measurement that comes with it.
- Anthropic and OpenAI - the AI that reads your brief and your photograph and produces the look.
- Resend - the emails we send you.
- Stripe - anything you paid us for, while we still sold styling credits.
- Awin and Rakuten - working out which retailer link led to a purchase, so the commission that keeps AskAna free is paid.
Where it goes
Some of those companies process data outside the European Economic Area, mainly in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses in our agreement with them. Ask us and we will tell you which clauses apply to which company.
How long we keep it
- Your account, your style profile and your decisions: until you delete them, or delete your account.
- A photograph: until you delete it, or until the decision it belongs to is deleted.
- A guest photograph on the free flow: that browser session only.
- A photographed invitation on the dress-code tool: discarded as soon as it has been read.
- What we count, described above: twelve months linked to you, then anonymous, and deleted entirely at twenty-four.
- Fair-use fingerprints: kept as one-way hashes for as long as the first-styling limit applies, and never as a raw IP address.
- Records of consent, and records of anything you paid for: kept for as long as we may need to show that we had your permission, or that the law required us to keep them.
What Ana decides about you
Ana builds a picture of your taste from the answers you give her, and - only if you have said yes to it - from how you vote. That picture shapes what she recommends. It is not a decision with a legal or similarly significant effect on you: nothing here decides whether you get credit, a job or a service. You can see what she has learned, change it, or turn the learning off, in You.
What you can make us do
- See it - ask for a copy of everything we hold about you.
- Correct it - if something is wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
- Delete it - in the app, or at askana.style/delete-account.
- Take it with you - ask for it in a form another service can read.
- Pause it - ask us to stop using it while we sort out a disagreement.
- Object - to anything we do on the basis of our own legitimate interest.
- Change your mind - withdraw any consent you gave, at any time, without losing anything you did not consent to.
- Complain - to your national data protection authority, wherever you live in the EEA or the UK. We would rather you came to us first, but you do not have to.
This policy is version 2026-09-10, in effect from 10 September 2026. When we change it in a way that matters, we will say so here and date it.
